MamaSia’s Top 10 Tips for National Relaxation Day

August 15th is National Relaxation Day and here are MamaSia’s 10 Top Tips to help you relax on this much needed self care day.

1. Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the gentle art of being still and present – without judgement. It means becoming the observer of your own thoughts without being hard on yourself. For example, if you’re washing the dishes, be fully engaged in that moment. If your mind wanders, simply breathe and bring yourself back to the now.

And speaking of breathing…

2. Breathwork
Believe it or not, you’re already practising breathwork – it’s what keeps you alive! But conscious breathing, even just for five minutes, can help regulate the nervous system. Our founder Maame, a qualified Breath Coach, swears by it. Just a few intentional breaths can soothe the vagus nerve and bring your body into balance.

3. Journalling
Now that you’re in a relaxed state, why not transfer your thoughts to paper? Journalling can be incredibly therapeutic. It helps you offload what’s on your mind and gives clarity in return.

Coach Carla, from Coach Carla Consultancy, suggests setting a timer for five minutes and simply writing down whatever comes to mind. Then, revisit it after a week to reflect on your growth.

Proven benefits of journalling include:

  • Strengthening immunity
  • Managing stress
  • Reducing anxiety and depression
  • Supporting physical mobility
  • Aiding pain relief – and more!

4. Silent Walks
Prefer something more active? Silent walking is a powerful way to connect body and mind. Walking in silence can reduce anxiety, improve focus, and boost your energy – all while deepening your relationship with yourself.

5. Steam & Facial at Home
Fancy something creative and indulgent? Why not treat yourself to a DIY facial? It’s easier than you think.

MamaSia’s 10-Minute Facial in 5 Simple Steps:

  1. Pull your hair back with a headband, bonnet or scarf.
  2. Use a gentle cleanser – our Black Soap is ideal. It cleanses, tones, and exfoliates naturally.
  3. Place a warm towel on your face to open your pores.
  4. Apply a Baobab Mask using Baobab powder – rich in Vitamin C, iron, and magnesium.
  5. Let your skin air dry, then nourish with Baobab Oil to lock in moisture and glow!

6. Foot Massage
According to traditional Chinese medicine, every organ has a corresponding point on the foot. Give your feet some love – they support you all day long! A good rub with our Shea Zest Balm delivers vitamins A, E, and F to tired soles, while leaving a fresh, uplifting scent.

7. Sip & Paint
Tap into your inner artist with a sip-and-paint session – solo or with loved ones. Painting boosts confidence, encourages self-expression, and brings you into the present moment. Plus, it’s fun!

8. Observe Nature
It sounds simple – and it is – but it’s often overlooked. Stop. Breathe. Observe. Smell the roses – literally. Spending time in nature improves your immune system and calms your nervous system. You’ll be amazed by what you notice when you simply slow down.

9. Listen to Music
We all know the power of a good tune. Whether it’s a soothing melody or your favourite song on repeat, music engages both sides of the brain and helps you fully unwind. So go ahead, hit play and relax.

10. Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is all about deep relaxation. It involves holding postures for 3–5 minutes, allowing your muscles to release and your breath to guide you. Don’t be intimidated – just roll out the mat and ease into stillness. Your body will thank you.
