Our Story
After meeting through a mutual friend Sam and Maame knew they had more than average friendship. Even though they was both born and raised outside of Africa, they Both share the continent with regards to their heritage and some aspects of their personal cultures.
Maame hails from West Africa (Ghana) and Sam from East Africa (Ethiopia)
Sam’s mum migrated to Senegal where she learned a lot about the natural resources around her.
Sam’s mother decided to take her new found wisdom one step further by planting 5000 Moringa trees. When she told Sam how hard the women work on her land Sam instinctively knew she wanted to help and learn more about these ingredients whilst helping to support the women in some shape or form.
Maame spent some of her childhood in Ghana where she learnt about the natural world around her, she was able to grapple with ancient beauty and wellbeing knowledge that had been passed down through the generations and in some instances can only be gained through an initiation process. When Maame returned from Ghana she completed her education and found herself working in the hearing aid manufacturing industry, she was so stressed with her role that when she visited her mother, she openly discussed how bad Maame’s skin looked due to stress.
Maame described her acne oily pronged skin as “sore, unpredictable and embarrassing” Maame’s mother advised her to ditch the beauty products that she continued to buy and go down the natural root.
Maame’s Mother gave her some Moringa tea, black Soap, and Hibiscus oil it was at that very moment that Maame remembered her childhood and how the community elders taught her how to look after her skin, within a week there was a noticeable difference and it was at this point in time that Maame began to re-connect with her extended family in Ghana to discuss how they could share the knowledge and resources with more people around the world.
After meeting Sam six months later, they both intuitively knew that they shared a joint purpose and mission through natural beauty and wellness, they then went about by combining their families resources together and created MamaSia.
